Thirty two choristers from Chorus Urbanus travelled to London for the 2012 Malta Day UK celebration that was held on the 8th of September 2012, following an invitation by Mr Joseph Zammit-Tabona, High Commissioner in London.
The event is held annually at Westminster Cathedral, the Seat of the Cardinal of Westminster. It is a leading feature in the calendar of Maltese communities and individuals in the UK and is held around the feast of Our Lady of Victory, this year falling on the liturgical feast itself. Hundreds of Maltese and their families and friends, travelled from all over the UK to attend the day’s varied events.
The programme was put together annually by the Malta Day UK Organising Committee under the auspices of the Malta High Commission and various Maltese sponsors.
The event got underway with a Maltese Fair at Westminster Cathedral Hall in the morning (at about 10.00am), Solemn Mass in the afternoon (about 2.30pm), where the Chorus Urbanus performed Missa In Fractione Panis composed by its director Dr John Galea accompanied by the Organ scholar at Westminster Cathedral.
The service was followed by the street procession with the Statue of Our Lady of Victories, (il-Bambina), with brass band and fireworks. In the evening the celebrations continued with a reception at the luxurious newly opened Corinthia Hotel in London Whitehall Place. During our stay, the members visited numerous London tourist attractions and attended fabulous West-end shows!
