‘Feel the Magic of Aladdin JR’ at Villa Rundle was a delightful mix of talent, bringing the beloved characters to life with enthusiasm and skill. The audience that packed the amphitheatre on both nights showed an overwhelmingly positive response to the production of this timeless musical theatre. Patrons praised the vibrant costumes, dynamic performances, and the seamless integration of sound and lighting. The engaging storytelling and the cast’s energy  captivated both children and adults, making it a delightful experience for all ages.

The Genie  played by Giorgio Anici Camilleri, brought a burst of energy and humour, delighting the audience with his comedic timing and vibrant personality. The leading role of Aladdin was played by Kurt Theuma Scerri where the charm and adventurous spirit were perfectly captured together with Jasmine played by Nyann Vella where strength and grace added to the character. Jafar performed by Gabriel Grech put on a convincingly menacing performance adding a touch of drama to the show. He was ably supported by side-kick Iago, Alexei Scicluna, providing plenty of laughs with his witty lines and expressive acting. The supporting trio of Babkak, Omar and Kassim,  performed by  Kristen Grima, Faith Buttigieg and Elisa Vella gave a solid contribution to the overall dynamics of the musical, with their fast interactions and robust singing. Jonathan Chini was had a warm fatherly presence, adding to the familial themes of the story.

The production team spearheaded by Hilda Grima (Music director and choreographer) together with director Jamie Camilleri (Beta Academy) proved their true mettle with the highest standards accorded to this ambitious production that saw all the participants: singing roles, actors, Ensemble, Agrabahns and dancers weld together to provide us with a truly magical Aladdin JR. Yvonne Galea’s costume designs for Aladdin JR were nothing short of spectacular. Her attention to detail and vibrant use of a well blended colour scheme brought the magical world of Agrabah to life. Her team ensured that each costume, from Aladdin’s humble street rat attire to Jasmine’s elegant royal gowns,  crafted with precision and creativity, reflected the characters’ personalities and the story’s enchanting essence.

The backstage team for Aladdin JR (led by Karl Joseph Buhagiar), including ProStage Sound and Beam Lighting, played a crucial role in bringing the magic of Agrabah to life. ProStage Sound (John Luke Debrincat) ensured that every note and line was heard clearly, enhancing the musical experience with their expert sound design. Chris Gauci – Beam Lighting’s innovative lighting design added depth and atmosphere to each scene, from the bustling marketplace to the enchanting Cave of Wonders. The Make-up department (Sempre Bella Beauty Salon – Jessica Fenech Zammit, and Inglot Gozo – Adriana Scicluna) combined efforts with the other departments to create a seamless and immersive experience, making the production truly unforgettable.The audience’s enthusiastic applause and standing ovation at the end of the show were a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this production. ‘Feel the Magic of Aladdin JR’ was a delightful and memorable experience for all who attended, showcasing the incredible talent and creativity of Chorus Urbanus Productions.
