Select members of Chorus Urbanus proudly took part in the illustrious production of Verdi’s Giovanna d’Arco at Teatru Astra on 24 and 26 October 2024. This collaboration with the Astra Opera Chorus brought together exceptional vocal talents to portray the poignant and dramatic story of Joan of Arc. Under the masterful direction of Enrico Stinchelli, and musical direction of Dr John Galea (conducting the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the production featured an outstanding cast including Sophie Gordeladze as Giovanna, Giulio Pelligra as Carlo VII, and Badral Chuluunbaatar as Giacomo, our own Noel Galea as Talbot and Davide Benigno as Delil. The performances were nothing short of spectacular in all aspects including scenography, costumes, choreography, and lighting!
The combined choirs that also included a group from the Coro Lirico Siciliano delivered powerful and emotive renditions, enhancing the overall grandeur of this rarely performed opera that has not been performed in Malta since 1852. Chorus Urbanus’s participation not only exemplified their dedication to artistic excellence but also underscored their versatile repertoire and ability to contribute significantly to major operatic productions. The partnership for this opera was a testament to the strength of collaboration within Malta’s vibrant cultural scene, providing audiences with an unforgettable musical experience.
