During yesterday’s Solemn High Mass celebrating the Sacred Heart of Jesus, presided over by H.L. Msgr George Frendo OP at the National Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Fontana, Canon Simon M. Cachia presented two significant works of art: a reproduction of Giuseppe Cali’s titular painting and a contemporary piece by Jeremy Spiteri, commemorating the 350th anniversary of the Apparitions to Sister Marie-Marguerite Alacoque. These gifts were bestowed upon Mr. Karl Joseph Buhagiar, President of Chorus Urbanus, and Dr. John Galea, Musical Director, as a tangible expression of gratitude for the choir’s 25 years of unwavering service to the parish, particularly during festa week, when their musical contributions are an integral part of the celebrations.

The silver jubilee of Chorus Urbanus marks a profound milestone in its dedicated commitment to Fontana Parish. Through the years, the choir has been a pillar of the liturgical and cultural life of the community, elevating sacred music and fostering a deep appreciation for choral excellence. Our most cherished contribution remains the premiere and successive annual performances of Missa Fons Vitae, a masterful work composed by our esteemed Musical Director, Dr. John Galea, which has become synonymous with the parish’s spiritual, cultural and musical identity.

Beyond their musical performances, Chorus Urbanus has played a pivotal role in shaping the local music scene, collaborating on prestigious religious and cultural events, and nurturing musical talent across generations. This historic anniversary serves as both a celebration of past achievements and an opportunity to look ahead to new artistic endeavours, ensuring that their legacy continues to inspire and enrich the community for years to come.
