On Monday, 16 June, the choirs Cantores Dei from Alessandria della Rocca, Sicily, and Chorus Urbanus came together for a remarkable cultural exchange during the event Music and Tradition: Dialogue between Two Cultures. This meeting celebrated the shared love for choral music while embracing the distinct traditions of each ensemble.
The evening featured short vocal presentations by both choirs, showcasing their unique styles and musical heritage. The presidents of the respective choirs, Anna Maria Ligammari and Karl J. Buhagiar, addressed the gathering, reflecting on the significance of music as a bridge between cultures and communities. Their words highlighted the deep-rooted passion and dedication that both groups bring to their art.
Before the event, the Cantores Dei choir members visited the 50th Anniversary Exhibition at the Banca Giuratale, where they were given extensive information on Chorus Urbanus’s undertakings over the years. This visit provided valuable insight into the choir’s rich history, achievements, and contributions to the local musical landscape.
Following the musical presentations, by both choirs, and a joint number ‘Va, pensiero, sull’ali dorate’ from Verdi’s Nabucco, an exchange of gifts symbolised the mutual appreciation and strengthened ties between the choirs. The event concluded with a warm reception, allowing members to interact, share experiences, and celebrate the spirit of musical collaboration. This gathering not only deepened artistic connections but also reinforced the enduring power of music in uniting people across borders.
