The opening performance of ‘Alice in Wonderland JR’, presented as part of the ‘Feel the Magic 2026’ offering, was a vibrant triumph that set an inspiring tone to add to this year’s artistic offering. The production radiated youthful energy, creative ambition, and a level of polish that reflected the sheer dedication of the young performers and the strong artistic vision guiding the project that is now running in its 8th consecutive year..
Performances Full of Spark and Character
The cast delivered a lively and confident interpretation of Carroll’s whimsical world.
The three Alices (small Alice, Alice and tall Alice) led the journey with clarity, charm, and expressive musicality. The White Rabbit together with the Mad Hatter and the March Hare infused the stage with delightful eccentricity, their comedic rhythm energising the audience. Of notable strike were the Dodo bird and Caterpillar, together with the seasoned participation of the three Cheshire Cats, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. The Queen of Hearts commanded attention with bold humour and theatrical flair, becoming an instant favourite together with the impressive costumes of four decks of cards.
The ensemble’s discipline and enthusiasm were evident throughout, transforming Wonderland into a space of colour, imagination, and youthful artistry.
Artistic Direction & Vision
This production showcased the core mission of Feel the Magic: that of empowering young performers through high‑quality artistic experiences. The direction balanced creativity with accessibility, allowing the cast to shine while maintaining narrative clarity. Musical direction was excellently paced and balanced throughout. Thoughtful staging, well‑paced transitions, and imaginative choreography contributed to a cohesive and engaging performance.
Visual & Technical Excellence
Costumes and set design brought Wonderland to life with vivid colours and playful detail. Multi‑layered costumes celebrated the regal splendour of the Queen and King of Hearts that stood out in terms of visual elements.
Lighting and sound were executed with professional precision, enhancing the storytelling without overshadowing the performers.
Musicality & Ensemble Strength
The musical numbers were delivered with enthusiasm and impressive coordination. Harmonies were clean, choreography well‑synchronised, and ensemble scenes—particularly the tea party and courtroom sequences—were energetic highlights that showcased teamwork and commitment.
This excellent first performance was made possible not only by the talent on stage but also by the generous support and collaborative spirit behind the scenes, and above all by the collaboration shown by parents. The ‘Feel the Magic’ team, working tirelessly on a voluntary basis, contributed countless hours to ensure that every detail—from rehearsals to staging—reflected passion, care, and community dedication. Their combined efforts underscore the cultural value of initiatives that invest in young artists and enrich Gozo’s creative landscape.
