Apart from setting new milestones for the choir where musical prestige is concerned, the recent choral tour in the Palermo region saw the choir embark on a laudable eco-friendly initiative. For the concert of sacred music held in the Cathedral of Palermo, the choristers started using tablets instead of printed scores.

Chorus Urbanus have just returned from a highly successful choral tour in the Palermo region during which the choir performed in two key events that marked new milestones in the choir’s rich history. This choral tour is especially significant for the fact that it took place during 2018, the year that marks Valletta (Malta) as the European Capital of Culture and Palermo as the Italian Capital of Culture. This XIII Choral Tour spanned over six days – 22 to 27 August, 2018.
Rehearsals have already started for the staging of the popular musical “Scrooge” by Leslie Bricusse at the Don Bosco Oratory, Victoria, Gozo later on in November 2018.

Chorus Urbanus will be undergoing its 13th Choral Tour, which will see the choir performing in the capital city of Sicily, the impressive city of Palermo, and in Monreale, famous for its Cathedral which is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The choir will be also touring Trapani, Erice, and the beach resorts of Scopello and San Vito Lo Capo.

Chorus Urbanus made a repeat performance of the highly successful “Feel the Magic” concert that was held earlier in May as an opening to the Gozo Alive weekend of cultural events organised by the Ministry for Gozo. The concert was held at the Mgarr Marina on Friday, 27th July 2018.

Today is the twentieth anniversary of Joseph Bezzina’s death. Mr Joseph Bezzina was one of the founders and organist of Chorus Urbanus and also active as a composer of songs and other choral music. (more…)
Chorus Urbanus is indeed honoured with its excellent rendition of Dr John Galea’s ‘Missa Fons Vitae’ during Sacred Heart Feast Solemn High Mass on Sunday morning, a mass commissioned and premiered five years ago to celebrate the first centenary of Fontana Parish.

The opening event of Gozo Alive – Feel the Magic – organized by Chorus Urbanus Productions at the Villa Rundle, kicked off a special weekend of celebration in Gozo. The event featured Chorus Urbanus soloists, Chorus Urbanus, Urbanus Juniors and the University Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Dr John Galea, in an evening of magical reminiscences from famous animation classics. One of the events in Gozo commemorating the ordination of Archbishop Alfred Xuereb by Pope Francis, was a Solemn Mass celebrated in Fontana Parish by Mgr Xuereb to commemorate the official opening of the festivities culminating in the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Christ in mid-June. This mass was held on Friday 6th April 2018.
